MCZ consultation process in Wales

MCZ consultation process in Wales

added by Fish Fight Team on 12 Feb 2013

Wales already has a good coverage of marine protected areas that exclude fishing methods like scallop dredging.

The Welsh Government decided on an approach of making a few ‘highly protected’ MCZs: closed to all forms of fishing as well as other activities that could cause damage to the seabed or wildlife.

The Welsh Government held a consultation in summer 2012, and received many passionate responses supporting and opposing highly protected MCZs. A report is expected in April 2013 on the next steps that will be taken.
