Our seas are under immense pressure: too many fish are being taken out, too much rubbish is being thrown in and too little is being done to protect our precious marine wildlife and vital fish stocks. MCS\\\' vision is for seas rich in wildlife, abundant fish stocks and pollution free beaches and bathing waters – seas that are fit for wildlife to thrive in and for people to enjoy, and seas that will support future generations with abundant resources. They champion the need for marine wildlife protection, sustainable fisheries and clean seas and beaches. Their many successes and campaigns to date include the introduction of Marine Acts to better protect our seas and marine life, and influencing sustainable seafood choices by major retailers and consumers through the Good Fish Guide. The MCS have also brought together thousands of volunteers in Beachwatch to clean our beaches of litter, and campaigned for Marine Reserves Now! to create safe havens for wildlife and fish populations to recover.

I wrote 'The End of the Line' in 2004 to draw the world's attention to the crisis of over-fishing and the devastation in our oceans. The book became the film, which led to the creation of BLUE – a British charity dedicated to addressing the marine crisis – and signalled the start of a movement to resolve it. I am delighted with the energy and success of Hugh's Fish Fight campaign and proud to support it. Together, we can make a difference.

Hugh and KEO have filmed the work we are doing in Lyme Bay, where we are trying to create value for fishermen who practice conservation. We at BLUE, a new charity spawned by the film, The End of the Line, believe that the removal of the most damaging fishing gear can be of tremendous benefit to fishermen who fish more selectively and that even fishermen who are displaced can see some benefits from fishing responsibly outside protected areas. The movement sweeping the world to create protected areas is absolutely vital - but it needs to benefit local people.

When we made 'The End of the Line' we hoped that we'd start a bigger movement to address the problem of overfishing. I don't think any of us dared hope it would reach the scale that it now has. Fish Fight is a wonderful campaign, which we are proud to support, and delighted that our film inspired such passion and action. BLUE's work to create global Marine Protected Areas is going from strength to strength. Our project in Lyme Bay, featured within Hugh's new series, is a perfect example of what can be achieved if we – as NGOS, fishermen, government and business – come together.

We need to do something about this, whether it be hammering at the doors of politicians to change policy, or hammering at the doors of our local chippies to get them to put sustainable fish like mackerel on the menu."
